The Micheal L.Printz Award for Young Adult Literature
As a parent of a young adult, which of the titles in the 2013 award list would you like to read with your child and why?
I would like for my child to read Verity because of her interest in the WWII era. I think she would enjoy the story of the friendship between the two girls at that time.
ReplyDeleteKandace, I also really enjoy reading WWI and WWII related fiction and nonfiction. I think that is a great choice.
DeleteI woud be interested in reading the Dodger written by Terry Pratchett. I am not familiar with the text but the description of the link you provided was intriguing. One reason I believe it would be suitable is that its main character is a 17 year old. For students who are struggling to find interesting books, a book about a peer is one of the best catches. It sounds like it has drama and intensity. Lastly, the part about gaining advice for navigating throughout different circles of politics and social situations seem like a young adult could benefit from it and relate it back to his/her own life.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks interesting to me also. I agree, teens like to read books about teens.
DeleteI would have them read In Darkness by Nick Lake. By reading the description, I think it would be good for a young adult to read this book because of all the adversity the main character faces in the novel. Seeing how the character responds that the adversity could have a positive impact on the young adult.
ReplyDeleteA lot of young adult books deal with responding to adversity, so I agree that this one looks like a good choice.
DeleteI would choose They White Bicycle written by Beverley Brenna. The description states how the young lady has Asperger’s Syndrome - I think this would be an eye opening experience to others.
ReplyDeleteOf all the list, this is the first one I would choose. I have had several students with Asperger's and I would learn a lot from this book.
